At least 20 people have died and dozens injured after a Bolivian Air Force cargo plane crashed in the western city of El Alto on Friday evening. The C-130 Hercules aircraft was transporting banknotes to the Central Bank of Bolivia when it reportedly skidded off the runway and collided with nearby vehicles.

Authorities said there were eight crew members on board, and Bolivian police fired tear gas to disperse crowds attempting to take scattered banknotes. At least a dozen arrests were made, and officials warned that the unissued notes have no legal value.

The incident also affected journalists covering the crash, with reports of attacks by people in the crowd. The Bolivian Health Ministry confirmed 31 people were injured and appealed for urgent blood donations.
Weather conditions at the time, including heavy hail and lightning, may have contributed to the crash. An investigation is underway.
